The World Food Programme (WFP) has completed the handling of the Republic of Korea’s second rice contribution to support Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. The donation of 20,265 metric tonnes of rice will provide food assistance to 1.1 million Rohingya refugees for two months.
According to WFP, the rice was received, inspected, stored, and transported by its Supply Chain team, which operates one of the largest humanitarian logistics networks in Bangladesh. The team also supervised the fortification process, blending the rice with fortified kernels enriched with essential nutrients such as vitamin A, B1, B12, zinc, and folic acid. The kernels were also donated by Korea.
The fortified rice will be transported to Cox’s Bazar and distributed to refugee families through WFP’s e-voucher system, supported by digital tracking to ensure transparency and accountability.
WFP stated that the contribution strengthens ongoing efforts led by the Government of Bangladesh to support Rohingya refugees and vulnerable communities.
“Thanks to the generosity of Korea and the dedication of our supply chain colleagues, WFP continues to turn contributions into life-saving support,” the agency said.
