The United League of Arakan (ULA) has issued a response to a September 2 report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Secretary-General on the situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar.
The ULA said that although the OHCHR-Myanmar Team had contacted them for answers to interview questions, the report did not adequately reflect their facts, figures, and statements. The group expressed regret that its responses were not fully represented, calling for a more balanced assessment.
According to the ULA, the report undermines efforts to build trust and social cohesion among communities in Rakhine (Arakan) State and appears aimed at increasing blame against the ULA and its armed wing, the Arakan Army (AA). The organization also suggested that upcoming international conferences in New York and Doha may have influenced the report’s framing.
The group further criticized the UN’s reporting process, saying the omission of their responses reduces trust in the mechanism. It called on OHCHR and UN officials to prioritize accuracy and accountability in their work.
The ULA also raised concerns over security conditions in Rakhine, citing what it described as growing activity by Islamic militant groups along the Bangladesh border. It warned that reports lacking accuracy could heighten tensions and contribute to instability in the region.
The UN has not yet issued a response to the ULA’s statement.
