South Korea has sent 20,000 metric tons of rice to support Rohingya refugees living in camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The assistance will be distributed through the World Food Programme (WFP), according to a post by the Bangladesh Embassy in Seoul on its official Facebook page.

A sailing-out ceremony for the rice shipment was held at Gunsan Port on October 1, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) of South Korea. Md Tarazul Islam, Counsellor at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul, attended the event alongside the Director General of MAFRA’s International Cooperation Bureau, the Deputy Regional Director of the UN WFP, and officials from local Korean governments.
Islam thanked the South Korean government for its continued humanitarian support, noting that the assistance comes at a time of declining global aid for Rohingya refugees. He also called for international cooperation to ensure the safe and sustainable return of the Rohingya to their homes in Myanmar.
