The Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), Mr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, held his first meeting with the Examination Board of Rohingya Refugees (EBRR) and representatives of community-based schools to discuss improving education for Rohingya children in refugee camps.
Mr. Rahman welcomed the creation of the EBRR, calling it a positive step toward uniting community schools and enhancing educational opportunities. The EBRR management outlined how the board was formed, its objectives, and the need for continued support from Bangladeshi authorities.
When Arakan Now contacted Khin Maung, a board member of the EBRR, he said:
“Firstly, this is a historic step — the first time in eight years that high-level government refugee officials have met with representatives of Rohingya community schools, and it is the first tangible result we have seen since establishing the EBRR. Secondly, we formally request that the RRRC accept and recognize our Examination Board of Rohingya Refugees. The Commissioner listened attentively and responded, ‘My talking and meeting with you is also a recognition.’ He expressed strong appreciation for our work and committed to working closely with the EBRR.”
EBRR’s Education Committee and school representatives also shared operational challenges, such as limited classroom space, and highlighted how a unified examination system could benefit students. Mr. Rahman acknowledged the vital role of community schools and pledged to support efforts to improve education in the camps.
