In a recent high-level telephone conversation between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis featured prominently alongside broader bilateral issues.

Chief Adviser Yunus expressed appreciation for the United States' longstanding humanitarian support, noting that Washington has remained the top donor to the Rohingya response since the 2017 crisis began. "The prospect for a viable solution and repatriation of Rohingyas back to Myanmar is now better than ever before and Bangladesh is working on that," Professor Yunus said during the call.

Secretary Rubio reaffirmed U.S. support for Bangladesh's efforts in addressing the refugee crisis and emphasized the importance of a peaceful and dignified repatriation process in coordination with international partners.

The discussion reflects growing international attention on sustainable solutions for nearly a million displaced Rohingyas currently residing in southeastern Bangladesh.
