On August 30, Myanmar’s military forces launched a brutal attack on Tula Toli, a village in northern Maungdaw, Rakhine State, resulting in widespread violence against civilians. The violence was indiscriminate, targeting men, women, and children. Survivors recall the haunting cries of their loved ones as homes were set on fire and entire families were massacred. Witnesses describe how men were separated from their families, executed, and buried in mass graves. Women suffered sexual violence, with many burned alive in their homes. Hundreds of Rohingya were killed in the massacre.

The scale of the violence was devastating, leaving survivors with lasting emotional and physical scars. Many lost entire families in a single day, and the trauma continues to affect those who fled the region.

When Arakan Now contacted Mohammed Furkan, a survivor of the Tula Toli massacre, poet, and teacher, he shared his grief and the ongoing pain of his community:
"On the day of the Tula Toli massacre, I lost eight members of my family, along with many of my fellow villagers and neighbors. The pain of that day has never left me. From the international community, I expect more than just words of sympathy—I demand real commitment to justice, accountability, and recognition of our suffering. Without justice, our wounds remain open, and our pain endures."
