Director Fujimoto Akio’s film Lost Land (Hara Watan) won three awards at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, drawing international attention to the plight of the Rohingya, one of the world’s most persecuted minorities.
The film received the Best Asian Film (Special Award), the Bisato D’Oro Award, and a Jury Prize. A co-production between Japan, France, Malaysia, and Germany, Lost Land is based on real accounts from the Rohingya community. It follows two stateless Rohingya children who risk their lives crossing borders in search of their family.
Filmed with Rohingya refugees and in their native language, the movie blends narrative storytelling with documentary realism, highlighting both displacement and resilience.
Co-producer Sujauddin shared the news on Facebook, calling the award “a testament to the powerful storytelling, vision, and resilience behind the film,” and said he is proud of the team’s accomplishment.
