Jamaat-e-Islami proposed the creation of an independent Arakan State in the Rohingya-majority region during a meeting with the Chinese Communist Party on April 27, The Business Standard reported.
Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Md Taher said, “1.2 million Rohingyas are living in Bangladesh in very poor conditions. Providing food and shelter is not enough.”
He suggested that the real solution would be to settle the Rohingyas in “their own land” by creating an independent Arakan State.
Taher also noted that China could play a key role in this, as it has strong ties with Myanmar. He mentioned that regional security was also discussed during the meeting.
