High Representative Discusses Rohingya Issue with Malaysian Envoy on Myanmar

KUALA LUMPUR, August 13, 2025 — National Security Adviser and High Representative on the Rohingya Issue Dr Khalilur Rahman met with ASEAN Chair’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Othman Hashim on Wednesday at the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Putrajaya.
Ambassador Hashim expressed deep appreciation to Bangladesh for its continued generosity towards the Rohingya community.
The two officials discussed recent developments in Myanmar, voicing serious concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Rakhine State and the decline in international financial support for Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh.
They reaffirmed their commitment to work closely towards an expeditious and sustainable solution to the crisis.
Dr Rahman briefed the Special Envoy on the upcoming Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the Rohingya Issue, scheduled for 25 August in Cox’s Bazar, which will bring together national, regional, and international actors.
Both sides also discussed the upcoming UN International Conference on the Rohingya, to be held at UN Headquarters on 30 September, expressing confidence that the conference will deliver a concrete action plan to address the crisis and secure adequate international assistance for the Rohingyas in Bangladesh.
