Bangladesh on 3 December received 3,000 metric tonnes of sunflower oil under the Grain from Ukraine initiative, a humanitarian effort funded by Sweden and supported by the World Food Programme (WFP).
Ambassadors from Sweden, France, and Ukraine were present at the handover ceremony, underscoring their governments' continued engagement in addressing food insecurity among Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar.
Officials expressed appreciation for the coordinated support, noting that the donation will bolster urgently needed food assistance for nearly one million Rohingya refugees who remain dependent on aid for survival.
Despite the value of this contribution, speakers emphasised that humanitarian aid alone cannot resolve the prolonged crisis. Key messages reiterated during the event include:
The Rohingya people must be guaranteed a safe, dignified, and voluntary return to their homeland in Myanmar.
The international community must maintain focus on the Rohingya crisis, which risks slipping from global attention.
Myanmar's ongoing policies of discrimination and dehumanisation against the Rohingya must be confronted, with accountability upheld.
Bangladesh reaffirmed its commitment to supporting refugees in accordance with humanitarian principles but stressed that sustainable, long-term solutions depend on unified global action and justice for the Rohingya community.
