Two Bangladeshi fishermen were reportedly shot, and three others were abducted by the Arakan Army, an armed rebel group in Myanmar, on the Naf River in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf on Sunday.
The shooting occurred near Jaliapara in Shah Porir Dwip when three fishermen crossed into Myanmar waters while fishing, according to Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Ehsan Uddin. Two of them, Hedayet Ullah (18) and Md Hossain (18), were injured and are now receiving treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. They are reported to be out of danger.
In a separate incident, three fishermen, Siddiq Hossain (27), Rabiul Alam (27), and Mahmud Hossain (30), were abducted in the Lada area of Hnila Union. Nurul Huda, a member of the Hnila Union Parishad, said the fishermen were taken at gunpoint while fishing in the river.
