India’s Border Security Force (BSF) pushed 11 more Rohingyas into Bangladesh through the Khutamara border of Baldia union at Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram early Friday, according to a report by New Age.
With the latest push-ins, the number of people — including Rohingyas and Indian nationals — pushed into Bangladesh by India since May 7 has risen to 2,372.
The Indian border force has so far pushed at least 223 Rohingyas, including 50 registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in India, into Bangladesh.
Bhurungamari police station officer-in-charge Al Helal Mahmud said that the Rohingyas were later detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel at about 6:00am on Friday.
He added that their information was being verified and further legal action was underway.
According to the BGB, BSF members pushed the detainees into Bangladesh through pillar number 1011 of the Khutamara border. They were later seen roaming in the Sonahat Amtali area along the Sonahat land port–Kachakata road, where a patrol team from the Sonahat BGB camp detained them.
Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub Ul Haque, commander of the Kurigram-22 BGB Battalion, said that the detainees were handed over to Bhurungamari police station.
During interrogation, the detainees confessed that they were Rohingyas — displaced citizens of Myanmar — Mahbub said.
