The junta’s spokesperson, Zaw Min Tun, announced today that all amnesty orders and ongoing court cases filed under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code will be dropped. The statement was broadcast on state-run media this evening.

He said that individuals currently serving prison sentences under Section 505(a) would be released under Article 427 of the 2008 Constitution.

“Before the upcoming election, we will issue an order to drop all cases under Section 505(a) for those who have been charged and those who are in hiding. People already imprisoned under Section 505(a) will also be released with full pardon,” Zaw Min Tun said.

According to the announcement, the National Defense and Security Council will release the full list of individuals charged or imprisoned under Section 505(a) after the 8 p.m. news broadcast tonight.

The Junta's Sham election is planned for December 28, which is now only 32 days away.
