Outgoing United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi visited Naypyitaw on Tuesday, holding separate talks with junta Foreign Minister Than Swe, Border Affairs Minister Yar Pyae, Immigration Minister Myint Kyaing, and Social Welfare Minister Dr. Soe Win, according to The Irrawaddy.

The meetings focused on the signing of a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the regime, UNDP, and UNHCR for the repatriation of Rohingya people once stability is restored in war-torn Rakhine State. Discussions also included cooperation between the Bangladeshi government and the regime, and coordination between UNHCR and the junta, according to junta media. UNDP is the UN’s development agency, and UNHCR is its refugee agency.

Last month, Bangladesh hosted a two-day conference in Cox’s Bazar on the Rohingya community, ahead of a high-level conference on the refugee crisis later this month on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
