Two members of the Arakan Army from Yae Myat Taung (Natala) camp allegedly gang-raped a Rohingya woman in Nga Sar Kyue Village, Maungdaw Township, on the evening of 4 February 2026, according to multiple sources.
A resident told Arakan Now that the incident occurred around 4:00 p.m., when the two Arakan Army members entered Nga Sar Kyue, a riverside village in northern Maungdaw. The perpetrators reportedly went to the house of a resident identified as Sayed Alom, son of Basar Ali.
According to the resident, the two men tied up Sayed Alom and his wife before assaulting them. While the couple was restrained, the woman was raped and subjected to physical torture. She was later released but sustained injuries to her hand after the rope binding her was cut with a knife.
The victim reportedly fled to the house of a relative of a former village chairman to seek help and requested clothing, as she had been left naked during her escape, the source said.
The source further stated that Sayed Alom was later taken toward a nearby hillside, where the two men attempted to stab him. He managed to escape after shouting for help.
The incident was later reported to the village chairman, who then informed an Arakan Army camp, according to residents. That same night, several AA members reportedly arrived in the village and conducted an inquiry. Witnesses said the group took photographs of the injured woman and instructed residents not to speak about the incident.
According to local sources, the following day, the Arakan Army summoned both the alleged perpetrators and the victims to their camp. The perpetrators were reportedly punished with ten strikes each using a stick, after which the matter was considered closed, residents said.
Residents said the incident has created fear and anxiety among the Rohingya community, who expressed concern over their safety and the lack of a transparent investigation.
