Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two associates of the Arakan Army near the Ghumdum area in Naikhyangchhari, a hill township along the Bangladesh-Myanmar frontier. The arrests were made on Sunday by members of the BGB's Tumbru Border Outpost.

The matter was confirmed on Monday, 18 August, through a press release signed by Lieutenant Colonel S. M. Khairul Alam, Commanding Officer of BGB Battalion 34 in Cox’s Bazar.

The detainees were identified as Ulay Chakma (24), son of Uchla Chakma from Maungdaw, Myanmar, and Nayan Chakma (30), son of Gyan Ranjan Chakma from Rangamati town, Bangladesh.

According to BGB, during preliminary interrogation both admitted to having links with the Arakan Army. They were later handed over to Naikhyangchhari police station for legal action.
