Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained three members of the Arakan Army while they were attempting to enter Bangladesh through the Amtali border area in Naiksyangchhari, according to Coxs Bazar News (CBN).

The arrests took place on Monday evening (23 February) in Ward No. 8 of Ghumdhum Union.

According to BGB sources, border patrol members intercepted three individuals while they were crossing into Bangladesh through the Amtali border area. During initial questioning, the detainees identified themselves as members of the Arakan Army. Myanmar currency was recovered from them at the time of arrest.

The BGB later handed the three detainees over to Naiksyangchhari Police Station for further legal action.

Naiksyangchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Baten Mridha confirmed the handover, saying, “The BGB has handed over the three people detained from the border area to us. Legal action is being taken against them.”

Naiksyangchhari Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury said he had received preliminary information about the incident and noted that the BGB would be able to provide further details.

The BGB said border security has been strengthened and patrol activities increased to prevent any further infiltration attempts.
