Arakan Army (AA) abducted Mohammed Arman, also known as U Soe Tin, son of Shawfi (aka Mg Mg Tin) from Ward 4, Buthidaung Township, on December 18, 2023, in front of the municipal office.

AA accused him of collaborating with the military and leaking information. His family and neighbours rejected this allegation and said it is entirely false.

A local resident told Arakan Now, “He was totally innocent, with no connection to any armed group. The AA says they don’t abduct anyone without cause, but why arrest him without any offence?”

Since his abduction, Arman has reportedly been subjected to torture while in AA custody. No one has been allowed to see him, and his family remains in fear, uncertain about his current condition.

“He is alive, still being held in Buthidaung detention," a neighbour said, "but no one knows his condition. We’re all afraid.”

This alarming case underscores rising fear among residents, who say arbitrary arrests are tearing families apart in silence.
