Türkiye'deki Arakanlı Öğrenciler Birliği (TAÖB) met with officials from Türkiye Diyanet Vakfı to seek stronger institutional support for Rohingya education, with a particular focus on expanding scholarship opportunities for refugee students.
The meeting was led by TAÖB, the association representing Rohingya students studying across Türkiye. During the discussions, student representatives directly shared the challenges they face in pursuing higher education, including financial hardship, limited scholarship quotas, and documentation-related barriers. They emphasized that many qualified students struggle to continue their studies despite meeting academic requirements.
The main request raised during the meeting was an increase in the quota allocated to Rohingya students under the Diyanet scholarship program. TAÖB representatives described education as a long-term investment for a community affected by decades of displacement and restricted access to formal schooling.
According to participants, the talks also explored possible ways to reduce structural barriers and improve access to universities for Rohingya youth in Türkiye.
At the conclusion of the visit, the association presented a symbolic souvenir to foundation officials, highlighting the historical and spiritual ties between Rohingya Muslims and Türkiye.
