A nearly blind Rohingya refugee has died in the United States after being arrested without clear cause and later left on a roadside by U.S. Border Patrol officers, according to U.S. media reports.
The victim, identified as 56-year-old Nurul Amin Shah Alam, arrived in Buffalo about 15 months ago after fleeing genocide in Myanmar.
Authorities reportedly released him near a shop about five miles from his home without notifying his family or providing assistance, despite his inability to see, speak English, or use a phone. His family searched for him for several days before his body was found on a roadside in Buffalo.
