Newcastle upon Tyne has unveiled a historic Rohingya memorial stone on April 12.

The memorial was built to honour those killed during the Rohingya genocide. The initiative was supported by city councillor Habib Rahman.

The stone was installed at the Peace Garden of Newcastle City Council. The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle and the Mayor of Sunderland.

Local officials, Rohingya community leaders, and international guests including Bangladeshi acting (de facto) ambassador, human rights activist Maung Zarni and Natalie Brinham attended the event.

The memorial is seen as an important step toward recognition and justice for the Rohingya community, who have faced decades of persecution.
