A serious security incident occurred at the Kutupalong Transit Centre, near the Tv Tower in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, following the withdrawal of security personnel and the announcement of the centre’s closure, according to a representative of the facility.
The representative told Arakan Now that on the night of 10 January 2026, a resident, Robis Ahmed (male, 40 years old), was stabbed by unidentified individuals inside the Transit Centre. He has been taken to hospital for emergency treatment and his condition is reported to be critical. The attackers have not yet been unidentified, and the motive for the attack remains under investigation.
Residents say fear and panic are spreading within the centre. In the absence of security guards, protection services, and legal support, they describe the environment has become increasingly unsafe, particularly for vulnerable families, women, and children.
Residents and community leaders are calling for urgent intervention from relevant authorities and humanitarian agencies to ensure immediate security measures.
They have also urged the media and the international community to draw attention to the urgent protection needs of residents currently living in the Transit Centre.
