Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced plans to establish permanent Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) stations in Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar following recent fire incidents that exposed serious gaps in emergency response, according to The Business Standard.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with FSCD officials at the Bangladesh Secretariat today, the minister said directives have already been issued to construct permanent fire service establishments and create necessary posts to ensure round-the-clock preparedness in Rohingya camps.

“I have instructed the authorities to take immediate measures to build permanent fire service stations and create new posts to ensure continuous fire protection in Rohingya camps,” he said.

The minister noted that the urgency of setting up permanent fire service facilities in the camps has become clear due to repeated fire outbreaks that threaten the lives and shelters of thousands of displaced Rohingya people.

He added that special types of fire stations would be built in the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar to strengthen emergency response capacity and prevent future disasters.
