The Myanmar military has renamed its ruling body from the State Administration Council (SAC) to the National Security and Peace Commission.
The change was announced during a meeting of the National Defense and Security Council in Naypyitaw. The new 10-member commission is led by junta chief Min Aung Hlaing and includes top military officials Soe Win, Aung Lin Dwe, Ye Win Oo, Nyo Saw, Maung Maung Aye, and Kyaw Swar Lin (a new addition).
Min Aung Hlaing, acting as president, said the new body will handle “defense, security, peace, stability,” and prepare for elections planned in December.
This move officially ends the State Administration Council and the state of emergency declared after the February 1, 2021 coup.
