A junta fighter jet bombed Mrauk-U People’s Hospital on the night of December 10, killing 33 people, according to Burma News International. The strike happened around 9:00 p.m. on International Human Rights Day, hitting one of the few hospitals serving both Rakhine and Rohingya communities in the area.

Local sources confirmed that four Rohingya patients were among those killed. Several Rohingya were also among the injured, many of whom had been receiving treatment for chronic illnesses or conflict-related wounds.

The airstrike tore through crowded hospital wards where patients, caregivers, and displaced families were sheltering. Local residents said the initial count of 10 deaths rose sharply as more bodies were recovered from collapsed sections of the building.

A resident interviewed by Burma News International confirmed that the 33 victims include 16 men and 17 women. He added that the death toll could rise further because many of the wounded remain in critical condition.

Mrauk-U has been under Arakan Army (AA) control since February 8, 2024. Both Rohingya and Rakhine civilians have depended on Mrauk-U People’s Hospital as one of the last functioning medical centers in the region, making the attack especially devastating for already vulnerable communities.
