Myanmar’s military authorities have reportedly removed junta spokesperson Zaw Min Tun from his position, according to media reports.

Zaw Min Tun, who has been the military’s main voice defending its position on the Rohingya crisis, has been replaced by Brigadier General Ye Yint Aung, director of the military’s public relations and psychological warfare unit, The Irrawaddy reported.

Media reports said Zaw Min Tun is now under investigation, though the reasons for his removal remain unclear. Some sources suggest it may be linked to dissatisfaction over a recent statement about the junta leader’s emergency spinal surgery, while others point to concerns about how information on the ongoing fuel shortages was handled.

He had been the junta’s chief spokesperson since the 2021 military takeover and also served as deputy information minister and head of the information team under the National Defence and Security Council, which currently oversees governance under military rule.
