State Administration Council Chairman Min Aung Hlaing has granted amnesty to former President U Win Myint on April 17, 2026, which marks the first day of the Myanmar New Year, according to Voice of Myanmar.
U Win Myint, who had been serving multiple prison sentences, was released after being pardoned for all remaining terms and has been sent back to his family., source said.
He had previously been sentenced to a total of nine years and six months in prison, including four corruption-related cases and charges under Section 130(a). The amnesty reportedly includes a reduction of the remaining sentences, leading to his release.
