Fire Ravages Camp 16 in Cox’s Bazar, Hundreds of Shelters Destroyed

A major fire broke out in Camp 16 (Shobullah Khata) in Cox’s Bazar during the early hours of Tuesday, causing extensive damage to refugee shelters and key community facilities.


The fire reportedly started around 2:00 AM and was brought under control by approximately 4:30 AM. While no casualties have been confirmed at this stage, the blaze left hundreds of families displaced.


Preliminary Assessment of Damage


According to initial assessments, a total of 448 shelters were destroyed across four blocks:


  • Block D-1: 8 shelters

  • Block D-2: 100 shelters

  • Block D-3: 200 shelters

  • Block D-4: 140 shelters


In addition to residential shelters, several community facilities were also affected:


  • Moktob: 1

  • Mosques: 2

  • Learning Centers: 10


Authorities and humanitarian partners are continuing assessments on the ground to determine the full extent of the damage and urgent needs of affected families.
