Families of detained Rohingya refugees are calling on the Malaysian government to release their relatives, including children, who fled genocide in Myanmar’s Rakhine State in search of safety.

According to multiple sources, the Malaysian government is detaining more than 5,000 Rohingya refugees, including children, women, and the elderly. Some have reportedly been held for more than eight years. Images shared within the community show groups of detainees in overcrowded conditions, raising concerns about their well-being.

Families say they are deeply worried about the safety and future of their loved ones. “They escaped violence hoping to live in peace, but now they are behind bars,” said one family member. “We are begging the Malaysian authorities to release them and allow them to live with dignity.”

Right groups and families are urging immediate action, calling on the Malaysian government to end prolonged detention and uphold the basic rights and dignity of Rohingya refugees.
