Bangladesh’s border guards detained a suspected member of the Arakan Army at the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban district after recovering a rifle, ammunition, and tactical gear, officials said. The arrest took place in the Baishfari border area during a patrol when personnel noticed suspicious movement. After stopping the man and searching him, guards found an assault rifle, three magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition, and a tactical vest.
According to Bangladeshi media reports, the detainee was identified as Khin Maung Cho, 20. He was taken into custody for questioning, and authorities later filed cases against him under the Arms Act and for illegal entry. He has been sent to a Bandarban court for further legal action.
Security officials say border patrols have been increased in the area due to concerns about cross-border movement of armed groups and smuggling. They add that monitoring and checks along the frontier remain ongoing.
