Two Rohingya men were killed after being shot by the Arakan Army while attempting to flee to Bangladesh on 31 March, according to local residents.

The incident occurred near Tha Yet Oke village in Maungdaw Township. Residents said a group of four Rohingya men attempted to cross the border on Tuesday evening.

“When they were spotted by the Arakan Army near the border, they opened fire,” one resident told Arakan Now. “Two men were killed, while the other two managed to escape and return to the village.”

One of the deceased has been identified as Mohamed Farooq, son of Mohammed Salim. The second victim is believed to be Ziau Rahman, son of Nozir Ahmed; however, his body has not yet been recovered, and he remains missing.

Residents say fear continues to grow in the area, with many Rohingya families still seeking ways to escape despite the risks.
