The Arakan Army (AA) compiled lists of Rohingya men and women in Hpon Nyo Leik village in Buthidaung Township on 6 Feb for forced conscription into its ranks.

AA personnel recorded the names of 45 Rohingya from two wards of the village. Hpon Nyo Leik has 14 wards in total. At the same rate, the number of people listed across the entire village would reach about 315.

The lists include men and women, as well as boys and girls under the age of 18.

AA members warned that those who refuse conscription would face consequences and threatened them to leave for neighboring Bangladesh.

Residents reported that many families have already fled to Bangladesh due to fear linked to the conscription drive.

Similar forced conscription is taking place in Maungdaw Township, where Rohingya communities are also being listed.

Rohingya civilians in Arakan continue to face displacement and insecurity linked to the ongoing conflict. Human rights groups have raised concerns about the protection of civilians and recruitment practices in conflict-affected areas.
