The Arakan Army reportedly held a meeting with residents on 15 February 2026 in Nanyagone Maung Nama Play Daung village, Buthidaung Township, and compiled lists for conscription, according to multiple reports.
A resident told Arakan Now, “The Arakan Army asked for 5 males and 10 girls from Nanyagone Maung Nama Play Daung village and said they need to be sent as soon as possible.”
The resident added that the number of males requested was lower because nearly all male youths have fled to Bangladesh or other areas out of fear of conscription. “There are no youths left in the village now; only girls remain,” he said.
He also mentioned a settlement program allowing villagers to avoid military training by paying 25 lakh MMK for females and 20 lakh MMK for males.
Residents said fear of abduction and forced conscription is driving daily departures from villages. Many families have already left, and departures are ongoing.
Tensions remain high across Buthidaung Township, where residents fear further forced recruitment and displacement.
