The Arakan Army abducted seven Rohingya individuals on April 30 from Lea Wet Daung Pyin Shey village in Buthidaung Township, according to a local resident.

Two of the victims are from Kyaw Hla Pyin, while the other five are from Dun Chaung, where they had been sheltering.

The two victims from Kyaw Hla Pyin have been identified as Mohammed Hares, 17, son of Mohammed Miya, and Jani Alom, 20, son of Nur Hakim.

A local resident told Arakan Now that a group of Arakan Army members arrived in the village in the afternoon and took the individuals without explanation.

On May 2, the group, accompanied by the village chairman and others, returned to the village. They visited the homes of the abducted individuals and demanded money for their release, residents said.

The Arakan Army is reportedly demanding 1 million MMK per person.

“I don’t know how people can pay this amount to secure their release when they are already struggling to afford daily food for their children,” the resident said.

Families of the abducted individuals remain in distress as they struggle to meet the demands, with no certainty over when—or if—their relatives will be released.
