The Arakan Army (AA) is preparing to bring back Rohingya who fled to Bangladesh during the recent conflict in Rakhine State, according to local administrative sources cited by the Coastal News Agency (CNA).

Clashes between the AA and the Myanmar military junta first erupted in November 2023 and later spread across several townships, including Buthidaung and Maungdaw. As the fighting intensified, thousands of Rohingya were forced to flee across the border to Bangladesh, leaving everything behind in search of safety.

A local administrator in Maungdaw told CNA that discussions are underway to facilitate the return of Rohingya who fled during the 2024 conflict period, though detailed plans have not yet been disclosed. However, the Arakan Army has not made any public announcement about it.

Since the renewed fighting between the Arakan Army and the military junta began in late 2023, thousands of Rohingya have been killed or abducted, and more than 150,000 have fled into Bangladesh from Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships, according to international reports.
