The Arakan Army (AA) has reportedly ordered village administrators in Maungdaw Township to send 150–200 Rohingya youths per village, including both men and women, for mandatory military service.
The directive was issued during an October 20 meeting in northern Maungdaw, where AA members instructed Rohingya administrators that each household must provide one person for training or pay a fee if no eligible member is available. Men aged 18–45 and women aged 18–35 are required to undergo at least 45 days of military training, with the possibility of deployment afterward.
Locals say many residents are fearful and worried about forced conscription and the uncertainty of their fate after training. Some villagers have reportedly tried to flee to Bangladesh to avoid being sent to AA camps.
