The Arakan Army has reportedly destroyed the centuries-old mosques of Kwan Dine (ကွန်တိုင်) and Ywet Nyo Taung ( ရွက်ညိုတောင်) villages in Buthidaung Township, a local source told Arakan Now.

According to residents, both villages were previously burned down by the AA during its takeover of Buthidaung Township in 2024, forcing residents to flee to nearby areas. Locals say they have not been allowed to return to their villages. However, a few historical mosques had remained standing–until recently. Witnesses said AA members have now deliberately demolished these remaining religious structures, which had survived the earlier fire.

"These mosques were part of our history for generations," said a local resident. "The AA is intentionally erasing the historical and cultural heritage of the Rohingya community in Arakan."

The reported destruction has raised fears of a continued campaign to eliminate Rohingya cultural landmarks across northern Arakan.
