A boat carrying 39 Rohingya refugees, including a pregnant woman, sank in the Meghna River on Saturday afternoon while traveling from Bhasan Char to Alibazar Ghat.
At least 4 Rohingya have died, and 9 remain missing. 26 people were rescued with the help of local fishermen and police, according to local authorities. Search operations are still ongoing.
The boat departed from the Rohingya refugee camp in Bhasan Char around 2 PM. It capsized near Dubarchar, reportedly due to strong winds and high waves.
Officials said the group included patients from Bhasan Char being referred to a hospital in Noakhali, accompanied by four police officers. Some NGO workers and local residents were also among the passengers. Authorities continue to search for the missing.
