Bangladesh is talking with both the Myanmar junta government in Naypyidaw and the Arakan Army in Rakhine State, confirmed by National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman.

The discussions are about peace, humanitarian help, and Rohingya repatriation, as reported by The Daily Star.

“We want to support the UN in sending humanitarian aid. This can help bring peace in Rakhine and create the right time for Rohingya to return,” the adviser said.

According to him, the humanitarian channel being planned is only for helping the UN send aid to Rakhine under UN monitoring.

“The talks are still going on. We will tell the nation everything at the right time,” he added.

Khalilur, who is also the chief adviser’s representative on the Rohingya issue, said the UN will hold a high-level meeting on the Rohingya crisis in New York this September.

Earlier, Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain said Bangladesh agrees in principle with the UN plan for a humanitarian passage, but with some conditions. He also made this clear while speaking to the media, The Daily Star reported.

When contacted by The Daily Star, a spokesperson from the UN office in Dhaka said that any aid from Bangladesh to Myanmar must be agreed upon by both governments.

“The UN must get legal approval from the countries before it can send cross-border aid. Without that, the UN’s role is limited,” the spokesperson said.

Rakhine State is facing a major crisis, with thousands displaced due to fighting between Myanmar’s military and the Arakan Army.
