Approximately 70 Rohingya, including both prisoners and villagers, have been taken from Sittwe to light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 270 to undergo military training, local sources report.
About 20 Rohingya prisoners, along a small numbers of Rakhine prisoners, were taken from Sittwe prison. Another 50 Rohingya civilians were taken from five villages surrounding Sittwe town.
A resident with knowledge of the situation inside the prison told Narinjara that the military offered to release certain prisoners if they agreed to participate in the training.
"About 20 Rohingya were taken from the prison. I heard that one or two Rakhine prisoners were included as well. The military has long used prisoners for various purposes, sometimes transferring them to other areas. This time, around 20 were taken, the source said.
