Two Rohingya men were killed after being arrested by the Arakan Army in Maungdaw township, according to local residents and eyewitnesses.

The incident took place on 27 March 2026, when the two men were detained while returning home from work.

The victims were identified as Mohammed Younus, 19, son of Boshir Ahmed, and Mohammed Salam, 22, son of Abdul Amin. Both were from Tha Yet Oke village and had been working at a fishing lake in an area locally known as Abojah Fara.

Residents said the two were arrested at around 7pm while walking back from the lake.

“They were working at the fishing tank. When they were returning home, AA saw them and reportedly beat them a lot,” one eyewitness said.

Their whereabouts remained unknown for several days after the arrest.

Local sources said their bodies were later discovered in a stream near the beach after the water level dropped. The bodies showed signs of severe violence.

“They found them with their hands tied. Cloth was stuffed into their mouths,” another eyewitness said.

According to the information gathered, the victims had been tortured before being killed. Their eyes were covered, and their mouths were tied with rope. Stones had been placed on their bodies, and their throats were cut before the bodies were disposed of in the stream.

Residents described the victims as ordinary young men trying to earn a living.

“They were just living their lives and working to survive,” an eyewitness said.
