Arakan Now – 28 May 2025

The Arakan Army (AA) has taken control of all empty homes belonging to Rohingya civilians in Gudar Pyin and Sein Nyein Pya villages of Buthidaung Township. These homes were left behind by Rohingya families who recently fled to Yangon or Bangladesh due to the ongoing threats and abuses by the AA. Arakan Army has moved Rakhine families into these houses.

After the Myanmar Military destroyed Gudar Pyin on 28 August 2017, new houses were built for Rohingya who returned later. These homes have also been taken by the AA and given to local Rakhine families.

In another development, on 21 May, the residents of Dinet Pyin (ဒိုက်နက်ပြင်), a village located west of Sein Nyein Pya, have been told by the AA to move to a paddy field across the Sein Nyein Pya Stream.

A villager told Arakan Now: “Unless you are recently in the village, the home is no more yours. They start seizing every Rohingya home who are absent, either you fled to Sittwe, Yangon or Bangladesh.”

On 24 April, Arakan Now also reported that the AA had moved many Rakhine, Hindu, and Mro families into Rohingya villages in both Buthidaung and Maungdaw Townships.
