Arakan Now – 5 May 2025
Arakan Now earlier reported that on 24 April 2025, the Arakan Army (AA) abducted five Rohingya men from Aley Chaung village, Buthidaung Township.
One of them was Mohammad Rashid, a well-known figure in Buthidaung, also referred to as (နိုင်ငံတော်ရော်ရှိတ်) in Burmese.
After the Arakan Army took full control of Buthidaung, Rashid was appointed as the chairperson of Aley Chaung Village.
On 24 April, he was taken by AA along with four others. No reason was given for the arrest.
A villager told Arakan Now that Rashid was beaten and tortured by AA during detention. He later died from the abuse. The Arakan Army later informed the village that Rashid had died while in their custody.
The condition and whereabouts of the other four villagers are still unknown. Arakan Now is monitoring the case. We will share updates when new information becomes available.
