On May 6, 2025, at 8:00 AM, the Arakan Army arrested 15 Rohingya fishermen from Dar Paing Sar Yar Village, Buthidaung Township. The fishermen were heading to catch fish near Paung Daw Phyin Village in Buthidaung Township.

A villager told Arakan Now, “We don’t know the real reason behind the arrest of these 15 Rohingya fishermen.”

He also mentioned that the Arakan Army held a meeting with villagers two weeks ago before they were arrested. During the meeting, the villagers expressed their struggles, including a lack of income, hunger and food shortages. They also requested permission to fish, which the Arakan Army reportedly allowed.

Following the arrests, other fishermen and villagers are now fearful of being detained. The 15 fishermen are currently being held at Constabulary 7 (also known as Maung Nu Constabulary) in Buthidaung Township.

“People in Dar Paing Sar Yar Village are now planning to flee to Bangladesh,” the villager added.

Around 20 days ago, the Arakan Army displaced about 100 households from Dar Paing Sar Yar Village to Paung Daw Phyin and other nearby villages in Buthidaung Township.
