A Rohingya Boy Lost One leg to Landmine allegedly Planted by Arakan Army

A 16-year-old boy from Ponn Gyar village in northern Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, lost one of his legs after stepping on a landmine near the border fence while fishing.


The victim is Mohammed Ayaz, the son of Mohammed Amin from Ponn Gyar village of Maungdaw Township.


According to Maungdaw Daily News, a trusted local news outlet, the incident took place around 2 p.m. on May 1 while the boy was fishing west of the village. He accidentally stepped on a landmine inside the border fence area, causing the loss of his leg.


Since the Arakan Army took control of Maungdaw Township, no other armed groups remain there. The Arakan Army has started planting various weapons that have harmed innocent people.
