The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $58.6 million grant and a $28.1 million concessional loan to improve basic infrastructure and services for displaced people from Myanmar and host communities in Bangladesh.
The funding will support the Integrated Services and Livelihood Improvement Project, focusing on water, sanitation, roads, safety, food security, and disaster resilience in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char.
ADB said the project would enhance access to essential services and boost government capacity to manage support programs, with a special focus on vulnerable groups including women and children.
In Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char, the project includes solar streetlights, drainage upgrades, food distribution centers, and improvements in fecal sludge and biogas systems. In host communities, it will deliver cyclone shelters, water systems, and road improvements.
“This builds on our earlier $171.4 million support since 2018,” said ADB Country Director for Bangladesh Hoe Yun Jeong.
Over 1 million Rohingyas live in 33 camps in Cox’s Bazar, with more than 36,000 relocated to Bhasan Char.
